Two Arrested In Walnut Creek For Package Theft, Drug Possession
WALNUT CREEK (CBS SF) -- Police in Walnut Creek arrested two people Wednesday afternoon who were found to be in possession of stolen packages containing gifts and a controlled substance, according to authorities.
The two suspects, 34-year-old Walnut Creek resident Craig Lancaster and 19-year-old Martinez resident Shawna Byars, were seen in the area of Lakewood Circle at around 4:30 p.m. A resident saw the pair sitting inside a green 1994 Chevy S10 pickup truck parked in front of her home opening packages and thought they looked suspicious.
The woman took down the license plate of the truck and contacted the Walnut Creek Police Department. Officers responding to the area spotted the green Chevy and made a traffic stop. Lancaster and Byars were found to be in possession of stolen packages taken from the front porch areas of four separate residences in Walnut Creek and unincorporated Walnut Creek.
Both were also in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. They were both arrested for possession of burglary tools, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and were transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Police commended the alert resident for helping them catch the alleged package thieves and warned that package theft is on the rise during the holidays.
