Two-Alarm Fire Destroys Vacant San Jose Commercial Building
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- An early morning 2-alarm blaze Thursday destroyed a commercial building that once housed an O'Reilly Auto Parts store, authorities said.
At 3:02 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to 1064 S. White Road, the location of an O'Reilly Auto Parts store that has been abandoned since it caught fire June 1, 2016.
"When our crews arrived about 3 a.m., they had pretty heavily involved fire in the building and we went into a defensive operation right away, meaning we didn't put anybody inside," Fire Capt. Brad Cloutier said.
Fire crews had the blaze under control around 5:15 a.m., but crews remained on scene until just after 7 a.m.
There were no reports of injuries and the cause remains under investigation.
It was the second time a fire has damaged the building. The previous fire at that location started in the grass and shrubs behind the store and spread to the eaves of the building just as crews arrived.
It was initially considered a three-alarm fire, but it was upgraded to four alarms because of the potential presence of hazardous materials like motor oil and other automotive products.
No injuries were reported in last year's fire.
