Turkeys Needed At Curbside Donation Drive In San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- St. Anthony's Curbside Holiday Donation Drive is in full swing in San Francisco, as the charity is seeing an even greater need this year than ever before.
At the corner of Golden Gate Avenue and Jones Street, volunteers are taking deliveries of food, clothing and money.
Norma Plansiczka, who lives in the Mission District, was one of many that pulled up to offer donations as she has for the past 20 years.
KCBS' Margie Shafer Reports:
"I got them a large turkey and a bag of groceries," she said.
Francis Aviani with the St. Anthony Foundation said the organization is celebrating its 60th anniversary and the charity is seeing more people than ever before.
"We rely on our curbside donation every year for our entire year," Aviani said. "We definitely need turkeys for Thanksgiving. In order to meet our goal for Thanksgiving, we need about a hundred turkeys a day."
Aside from turkeys, St. Anthony's is accepting dry foods and clothing for their year-round programming.
They address immediate needs like hunger and the need for clothing, but also work on long term problems, such as employment, addiction and physical and mental health.
