Truck Carrying Chicken Guts Spills Load On Peninsula Highway 101
SAN MATEO (CBS SF) -- The afternoon commute along U.S. 101 on the Peninsula was especially messy Thursday after a big rig carrying chicken guts or slurry spilled part of its load.
The incident happened on northbound 101 just south of Kehoe Ave. in San Mateo about 4:00 p.m. when the truck stopped abruptly because of stopped traffic, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The sudden stop caused the trailer's load to shift forward and slosh over the top of the trailer which was covered with a tarp, spilling the hicken material onto the highway, the CHP said.
The incident prompted the closure of three lanes for about 30 minutes while crews cleaned up the mess.
There were no reports of injuries or vehicle damage.
