Travelers On Oakland-Utah Flight Stuck At Airport For Nearly 12 Hours
OAKLAND (KPIX 5) -- Passengers on a flight from Oakland International Airport to Utah endured nearly 12 hours of delays and had to deal with issues on three separate planes, before they left for their destination on Monday.
Allegiant Airlines Flight 1032 was scheduled to leave Oakland for Provo around 9:30 a.m. Monday.
Passengers told KPIX 5 that the plane was forced to return to the gate before takeoff, after mechanical problems were discovered. A spokesperson from Allegiant Airlines said the plane had a maintenance issue with the landing gear.
A second plane arrived from Las Vegas to take the passengers around 3:30 p.m. Passengers said they were not able to depart when the crew reported the jet was overheating.
The airline dispatched a third plane from Phoenix, which arrived in Oakland around 6:40 p.m. According to passengers, the plane was stuck on the tarmac for more than an hour.
Allegiant said the captain requested additional fuel and the aircraft returned to the gate. The passengers of Flight 1032 left for Provo at 8:48 p.m. and landed in Utah late Monday night.
Passengers who said they were stuck on the plane submitted videos to KPIX 5 while they were waiting on the tarmac.
"I have been imprisoned by Allegiant Airlines for over nine hours and I am outraged. This airline should go out of business immediately," a man on the plane said on video.
"My husband says we are never going Allegiant again. I have been at the airport since 10 to 6 this morning. And I'm so fed up with this airport," a woman on the plane said.
An airline spokesperson told KPIX 5 in a written statement, "Every effort was made to keep the passengers as comfortable as possible, providing food and beverages, $100 dollars off vouchers and the option to cancel or reschedule the flight at no additional cost. We never want to delay or inconvenience our passengers, but the safety of our passengers and crew is our number one priority."
According to the airline's website, Flight 1032 is normally scheduled to arrive in Provo at 12:10 p.m. Mountain Time.
