Transit Workers Plead Not Guilty In Caltrain Ticket Machine Theft
REDWOOD CITY (CBS/AP) - Two transit workers have pleaded not guilty to charges that they stole more than $40,000 from Caltrain ticket machines.
59-year-old Orvilla Taylor and 52-year-old Herbert Todd employees of the San Mateo County Transit District—entered the pleas on Wednesday to more than a dozen charges each of embezzlement and grand theft. A preliminary hearing date for the men was set for Oct. 25.
Prosecutors said the pair stole the money on 12 separate occasions from broken ticket machines they brought in to repair.
Caltrain discovered money was missing during an internal audit.
Taylor and Todd have been placed on unpaid administrative leave.
They were free on $150,000 bail each.
