Trains Kill 2 Pedestrians In Separate Incidents In North Bay, Peninsula
MOUNTAIN VIEW (CBS SF) - Two pedestrians were killed in separate incidents on train tracks in the North Bay and Peninsula Wednesday morning, according to authorities for Caltrain and Amtrak.
A Caltrain spokeswoman said a man was struck and killed by a train at the San Antonio Caltrain station in Mountain View at around 9:45 a.m.
Spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said the southbound #332 baby bullet train was not scheduled to stop at the San Antonio station when it hit the pedestrian.
The 207 passengers aboard the train were transferred to another train just after 10:30 a.m. and trains were single-tracking around the incident at 15 mph, said Bartholomew.
Earlier Wednesday, an Amtrak train struck and killed a pedestrian near the Suisun City station, a company spokeswoman said.
Capitol Corridor train No. 523 hit the pedestrian about a tenth of a mile from the station at about 6:10 a.m., Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said.
About 135 passengers were onboard the train that was headed from Sacramento to San Jose. Those passengers were put on another train. They faced delays of up to about an hour and a half.
Residual delays were expected to continue throughout the morning, Graham said.
Details about either victim were not immediately available.
