Train Carrying Wood Chips Catches Fire In Contra Costa County

MARTINEZ (CBS SF) - A train traveling through Contra Costa County Monday left a billowing plume of smoke in its wake after one of its boxcars caught fire.

Contra Costa Fire Protection District dispatchers said they received reports of the fire at around noon Monday, when the train stopped near the intersection of Old Orchard and Howe roads in Martinez.

Firefighters arrived at the scene a short time later, and put out the blaze by about 1 p.m., a dispatcher said.

The train car was full of wood chips, the dispatcher said.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported.
