BERKELEY (KCBS) - Traffic lights went dark Tuesday afternoon in the East Bay as a massive power outage affected the area and had caused the Downtown Berkeley BART Station to close at one point.

BART trains rolled through the Downtown Berkeley BART station and did not stop before service was restored around 3 p.m.

A PG&E spokesperson said at its height about 38,000 homes and businesses were affected in the outage that began at around 1:45 p.m.

Berkeley took the brunt of it after an issue with a substation was discovered. 29,000 customers in that city were affected.

The outage also impacted Albany, El Cerrito, Oakland, Richmond and San Pablo.
