Tourist Family In Rented GoCars Gets Stranded Across Bay Bridge
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Four family members touring San Francisco in small go-carts ended up getting stranded across the Bay Bridge and had to be picked up, according to a published report.
The tourists, a couple and their two children, rented four GoCars to tour the city Monday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
The caravan of GoCars, which have the power of a scooter, somehow got onto an onramp and onto the lower deck of the Bay Bridge, according to the Chronicle.
The report said father's cart stalled at the S-curve while the mother and two children continued all the way to the toll plaza.
The top speed of the GPS-enabled GoCars range in the 30-45 mile an hour range, but users are not allowed to take them on freeways, according to the company.
GoCar sent a vehicle to pick up the family, which was charged a $100 tow fee for each car that had to be brought back to San Francisco.
"They're not from here — they're tourists," California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Ferguson told the Chronicle. "They don't even speak English. They were very confused. They had no idea how they wound up on the bridge."
"It happens sort of often," Ferguson told the Chronicle.
