Tokyo Dreamliner Flights Return To Mineta San Jose Airport
SAN JOSE (KCBS)— Direct flights between San Jose and Tokyo were set to resume after the Federal Aviation Administration grounded the fleet of Boeing 787s in January.
All Nippon Airways' Dreamliner flights begin again on Saturday from Mineta San Jose International Airport.
The route was launched to great fanfare on January 11th, but a malfunction that caused the aircraft's batteries to catch fire temporarily ended the five-day a week service.
Airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes said that's all in the past.
"It'll be a much quieter launch party for that first arrival and departure given that it is on a Saturday, but we will certainly be here on hand to welcome that first flight."

San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed said he expects every seat to be filled for the re-launch.
"There's enormous traffic from Silicon Valley into Asia. Much of that goes through Tokyo. So, ANA is adding a direct flight from San Jose to Tokyo. That'll allow people who now have to travel to SFO to avoid that trip," Reed said.
