Tokers To Light Up At Oakland City Hall Marijuana Street Fair
OAKLAND (CBS/AP) -- Pot smokers were invited to light up outside Oakland City Hall for Saturday's marijuana street fair.
The International Cannabis & Hemp Expo featured music, booths, vendors and what was called the "215 Area," a designated spot outside City Hall where medical marijuana cardholders could smoke pot.
KCBS' Mark Seelig Reports:
The 215 is a reference to Proposition 215, the 1996 state ballot measure that legalized medical marijuana use.
It is believed the open-air marijuana smoking area is the first of its kind in the nation.
Festival chief Kim Cue said patients needed an opportunity to take their medicine.
