Toddler Killed, 2 Injured In Horrific Fremont Crash
FREMONT (CBS SF) - A toddler was killed in a horrific crash that also injured two adults in Fremont Tuesday afternoon, a police spokeswoman said.
The crash occurred at about 12:50 p.m. on Paseo Padre Parkway between Chadbourne Drive and Dorne Place.
A car appeared to have been speeding, went off the roadway and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to split in half, police spokesman Geneva Bosques said.
A child, believed to be about 2 years old, was restrained in the back seat but was ejected when the car split in half, Bosques said. The child was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.
The male driver of the car was also ejected and suffered major injuries, while a female in the front passenger seat was critically injured and was extricated from the car by firefighters, Bosques said.
"He was sitting in the roadway," said Geneva Bosques of Fremont PD. "He's a male...appears to be in his 30's"
Both the driver and the female passenger, also in her 30s, were taken to the hospital, she said. The driver is expected to survive but the female passenger was in critical condition.
Police remained at the scene Tuesday afternoon to investigate the fatal crash.
Paseo Padre Parkway remained closed in both directions as of 2:30 p.m. and Bosques said she expects closures on the road will last until at least 6:30 p.m.
