Tintype Photo Of Billy The Kid Bought For $2 In Fresno Could Be Worth $5 Million
FRESNO (CBS SF) -- A Tiburon-based company says it has authenticated a tintype picture of Billy the Kid from 1878 that a man claims to have bought at a Fresno junk shop for $2 that could end up being worth millions.
Western Americana and Rare Coin experts at Kagin's announced that the photo had been authenticated in early October.
The photograph was purchased in a Fresno store for $2 as part of a lot, and will be the subject of a two-hour documentary on the National Geographic Channel airing Sunday, Ovtober 18th at 9 p.m.
"I love handling great treasure finds," Dr. Donald Kagin, president of Kagin's Inc. said.
The 4x5 tintype depicts Billy the Kid and several members of his gang, The Regulators playing a game of croquet with others in the summer of 1878, Kagin's wrote in a release.
The tintype was appraised, and insured for $5 million.
