Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain Roll Through Bay Area
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS / AP) -- The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the San Francisco Bay Area as some wild weather rolls through the region.
Forecasters said an unsettled weather system moving into the area Thursday night is bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds.
A good portion of the Peninsula saw scattered storms with plenty of lightning Thursday night, National Weather Service forecaster Diana Henderson said.
An official at San Francisco International Airport said lightning from the storms hit a United Airlines flight, forcing the plane to return to the airport Thursday night.
Duty Manager John Ginty said the plane landed safely and there were no injuries to anyone on the jet.
He did not have any details of the flight and did not know what time it landed at the airport.
United Airlines did not immediately return a call seeking information about the incident.
The thunderstorms have caused delays of one to two hours for flights at SFO. Airport officials expect service to resume on schedule Friday morning.
Henderson said the thunderstorms are expected to continue well past midnight and the Bay Area will likely see more isolated showers throughout the day Friday.
"By Saturday it should be fine," she added.
The California Highway Patrol has issued high wind advisories for the Golden Gate Bridge and the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.
The CHP is urging motorists to use caution.
