An anonymous threat at San Francisco State University Thursday afternoon led officials officials to shut down the campus to conduct a search, but authorities said no credible threat was found.

The San Francisco State X account posted about the incident at 12:30 p.m. Thursday campus closure, saying that university police received the anonymous threat of violence and was working with local San Francisco law enforcement to conduct a sweep of the campus and investigate the threat.

Anyone currently on campus was advised to "shelter in place immediately" or go to a secure location, stay away from windows and doors and await further instructions. Those not on campus were instructed to stay away as all activities, finals and classes were canceled for the day.

School officials said any finals that were cancelled due to the incident would be rescheduled.

At around 2:45 p.m., authorities asked those on campus to continue to shelter in place "out of an abundance" and said an additional update would be provided at approximately 4 p.m.

That update confirmed that the shelter-in-place order was lifted for the schools main campus.

"University Police Department and local agencies have completed the search, and no credible threat to the campus community has been discovered," a post on the school's Office of Emergency Services website read.

While all classes and activities remained canceled for the remainder of Thursday, all activities including finals were set to resume on Friday.

The update said any students and employees whose job duties allow could leave the campus. Employees were also able to return to campus to retrieve any belongings as needed.

Residential students who were off campus could return to the residence halls and would receive a separate notice about campus support activities for them, officials said.

Students who were impacted by canceled or disrupted finals were asked to coordinate with faculty members to make alternative arrangements.

"Faculty members are encouraged to work closely with students to ensure suitable solutions are provided," the SFSU Office of Emergency Services post read.

More information was available on the university's Office of Emergency Services website.
