Outages In East Bay, San Francisco Leave Thousands Without Power
WALNUT CREEK (CBS SF) -- 22,000 Pacific Gas & Electric Co. customers in Contra Costa County were affected by a power outage Friday, according to the utility.
The outage was affecting customers in several communities, including Walnut Creek, Lafayette and Concord. It was initially reported around 5 p.m., spokeswoman Jana Morris said.
Power was restored to more than 10,000 customers as of 8 p.m., including Saint Mary's College in Moraga, where students gathered Friday to watch their men's basketball team play in the NCAA tournament.

The cause of the substation failure was not immediately known, however Morris said there have been reports of lightning strikes in the area.
Power was restored to all affected customers in the East Bay after 11 p.m., according to the utility.
Two power outages were also reported in San Francisco Friday night. In the Sunset District, an outage affected around 5,700 customers.
The outage was reported at 8:11 p.m., impacting customers between the San Francisco Zoo and Santiago Street from 35th Avenue to Great Highway, Morris said.
PG&E crews arrived in the area around 8:50 p.m.
A separate outage impacted around 1,040 customers in the city's Marina District.
That outage was reported shortly after 6 p.m., Morris said.
Service to customers in the Marina District was restored by 9:20 p.m. and to most customers in the Sunset District by 10 p.m.
