Thousands Of Lightning Strikes Hit Bay Area
SAN MATEO (CBS SF) -- Lightning strikes were reported in San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties Monday night, according to the National Weather Service.
Starting around 10:30 p.m. lightning strikes were reported near Pescadero and the Santa Cruz mountains.
More than 11,000 strikes were reported around the Bay Area since 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
KPIX 5 Meteorologist Lawrence Karnow said the lightning strikes could continue Tuesday, adding to already high fire danger.
Red flag warnings were in effect for the East Bay, and Santa Cruz mountains.
