Thieves Dim The Lights On Alameda's Christmas Tree Lane

ALAMEDA (KCBS)_ Thieves made off with dozens of ornamental pieces from an Alameda street known as "Christmas Tree Lane" last weekend, leaving residents angry and disillusioned.

People come from far and wide to view the lights and holiday displays on Thompson Avenue off Fernside Boulevard this time of year. But over the weekend around 3 a.m., residents say someone made off with ornaments on lawns in front of homes.

Nick Winterbauer said his family lost a fence and some decorative lighting.

"We talked to all the neighbors trying to see if anyone knew anything, but we weren't in any luck," he said. Winterbauer's spirits weren't totally broken a he rounded up another round of decorations and said they try to one up themselves every year.

KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:

The displays are so elaborate visitors are asked to help pay the electric bill.

So far police have made no arrests.
