The Simpsons - 'A Streetcar Named Marge'

When Marge lands the role of Blanche in a local production of "A Streetcar Named Desire," Homer cannot hide his disinterest.

Marge announces that she is trying out for a part in a musical version of "A Streetcar Named Desire" at a community theater, but her family is more interested in watching television. At the audition, Ned Flanders gets one of the leads roles, playing Stanley, the slovenly and uncouth husband of Stella. Marge tries out for Blanche, the timid and aging Southern beauty who is the object of Stanley's abuse. The show's director, Sinclair, cannot find anyone meek and fragile enough for the role of Blanche, until he hears Marge talking to Homer on the phone, telling him she is coming home with dinner. Finding her at last, Sinclair gives Marge the role she was born to play: Blanche DuBois. But Maggie becomes a distraction during rehearsals, leaving Marge with no other choice than to enroll her in a day care center. When Maggie's pacifier is taken away from her, the baby embarks on a mission to retrieve all pacifiers in the center.

Marge rehearses her lines, but she does not possess the right fire brought on by Stanley's incessant rudeness to her. At home, she asks Homer to help her with her lines. But Homer shows complete indifference, telling Marge he cannot fake showing interest in another one of her projects. Seething from Homer's insensitivity during rehearsals, Marge begins to read her lines with new vigor and determination. Sinclair rejoices at the sudden violent turn in Marge's personality. When Marge leaves dinner early to rehearse with Ned, Homer throws a temper tantrum at having to open his own can of pudding. Meanwhile, Maggie gains access to the pacifiers and distributes them to her fellow babies.

During the play, Homer is taken aback by the show. Afterwards, he goes backstage to tell Marge she was terrific and that he noticed how he saw himself in Stanley. He hugs his wife.
