Terminally-Ill 'Star Wars' Fan Dies After Fulfilling Final Wish To See Unreleased Movie
HOUSTON (CBS Houston) – "Luminous beings are we," explains Yoda in "Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back." "Not this crude matter."
Daniel Fleetwood knew those lines by heart. He had been a "Star Wars" fan since he was a boy, and had been looking forward to seeing the latest chapter in the saga: "Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens."
But in July a cancer diagnosis turned his world upside down.
Fearing he wouldn't live until the Dec. 18 premiere date, he and his wife, Ashley, began lobbying Disney, director J.J. Abrams, and cast and crew members for a chance to see the movie before its public release.
A social media campaign grew, with the hastag #ForceforDaniel.
Last week he was granted his dying wish: the filmmakers gave him an unedited version of the upcoming "Star Wars" movie.
But on her Facebook page Tuesday morning, Ashley Fleetwood announced the sad news.
"Daniel put up an amazing fight to the very end," she wrote. "He is now one with God and with the force. He passed in his sleep and in peace. He will always be my idol and my hero. Please hug uncle Marc for me and give Lucy lots of kisses. Rest in peace my love."
