Temporary SF Doyle Drive Bypass Nears Completion
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Doyle Drive commuters should expect a period of adjustment when traffic is moved onto a temporary bypass. The traffic re-route will come following an upcoming weekend closure of the stretch of roadway.
Drivers will be given a month's notice before the closure, and after that traffic will be moved permanently off of Doyle Drive and onto a new bridge and tunnel.
"The lanes are slightly wider than what Doyle Drive has today," said Molly Graham, spokeswoman for the Presidio Parkway reconstruction of Doyle Drive. "What this detour allows is it really gets people out of the way so the rest of Doyle Drive can be built efficiently with traffic moving adjacent to it."
The temporary bypass will be in place until the project is finished in 2015. Graham expects there to be a two-week adjustment period as drivers get used to the new configuration.
KCBS' Margie Shafer Reports:
"We'll expect an adjustment period, but it does have the same amount of lanes as Doyle and it's built to accommodate the same amount of traffic," she reasoned.
