Teenage Victim Identified In Oakland's 1st Homicide Of 2011
OAKLAND (BCN) - A teen who was killed in Oakland's first homicide of 2011 has been identified by police as Bay Point resident Darnell Barr.
Barr, 18, was shot about 10 minutes into the new year on Saturday in the 3100 block of High Street, Oakland police Officer Jeff Thomason said.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting and no suspect information was available as of Tuesday, Thomason said.
Barr was the second teen to be killed in Oakland in less than six hours last weekend.
Christopher Jones, 17, was fatally shot while helping his older sister put her 5-month-old daughter into a car on Friday evening, police said.
The shooting, reported around 6:30 p.m. Friday in the 7400 block of Fresno Street, also injured the sister. The infant was not struck by the gunfire, according to police.
Jones was a student at Castlemont High School, Oakland Unified School District spokesman Troy Flint said.
His mother, Brenda Grisham, said on her Facebook page that services for Jones are scheduled for Sunday and Monday in Oakland.
"A mother should never have to feel this kind of pain," Grisham wrote on her page. "The world just got a little dimmer...the light on Chris Jones is out...he is no doubt looking from above."
