Teen Arrested In Robbery Of CBS 5 Photog Skips Court; Warrant Issued
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A 19-year old suspect arrested in connection with the assault and robbery of a CBS 5 cameraman failed to show up in court and now has a no-bail warrant out for his arrest, according to Oakland Police.
The suspect, identified as Deliane Phillips, was arrested by Emeryville police the day after the attack on the photojournalist Gregg Welk, who was punched and robbed of his camera during a live shot in Oakland.
Police recovered at least one gun, and narcotics during the arrest.
Phillips was out on bail following the arrest and on Tuesday has missed his court date, according to Oakland Police spokeswoman Johnna Watson.
The video camera, estimated to be valued around $20,000 has not been recovered, and several other suspects were being sought, according to police.
The attack occurred shortly after noon on November 7th, as he was finishing a live-shot with reporter Anne Makovec outside Oakland Technical High School on the 4300 block of Broadway.
As the segment was ending, a group of young men rushed in, punching Welk twice in the face before driving off with the camera. Makovec was not injured.
