Teenage Boy Shot To Death In Marin City

MARIN CITY (CBS SF) - A teenage boy who was visiting family members was shot to death in Marin City early Friday morning.

Marin County Sheriff's deputies responded to numerous reports of shots fired at an apartment on the 300 block of Drake Ave. at about 12:16 a.m.

Deputies found a group of people trying to revive the teenager using CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been hit by several bullets.

He was identified by family members as 17-year-old Lavanial Williams.

Initial details about the shooting were sketchy as investigators worked throughout the morning, collecting evidence and interviewing residents.

Williams, who relatives said just turned 17 four days ago, lived away from his parents in Weed, Siskiyou County and was in Marin City visiting them.

Williams' older sister said she believed the killing was a case of mistaken identity. "It happened for absolutely nothing … basically, somebody just got the wrong thing … got him confused, they didn't know, he's not from out here."

Investigators were not sure how many shooters were involved and were asking anyone who may have seen anything to come forward.
