Teen In Oakland Triple-Shooting Charged As Adult
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A 17-year-old Oakland boy has been charged as an adult with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon for a shooting in downtown Oakland last Friday night that left three other juvenile boys injured, police said Thursday.
Jaleel Gistand could face up to 30 years in state prison if he's convicted, according to Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson.
She said Gistand is accused of shooting the other juvenile males in the 1300 block of Broadway around 11:15 p.m. on Friday.
The three victims were transported to local hospitals, Watson said. Two of the boys are from Oakland and the third is from outside Oakland, she said.
When officers responded to the shooting they spotted a juvenile, who turned out to be Gistand, matching the description of the suspect attempting to flee on foot, Watson said.
The officers chased Gistand and subsequently detained him several blocks away in the 700 block of 16th Street, she said.
Officers also recovered a handgun that they believe Gistand discarded, she said.
Watson said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing and anyone with information about it should call the major crimes unit at (510) 238-3326.
