Teen In Coma After Brutal Parking Lot Attack At Valley Fair Mall
SANTA CLARA (KPIX 5) – A teen remained in the hospital with a coma Friday after he was attacked in the parking lot of a major South Bay mall earlier this week, in a bold attack caught on surveillance video. His attackers remain on the loose.
Doctors rushed 17-year-old Christian Rasner into emergency surgery on Wednesday after he was brutally attacked in a parking lot at the Westfield Valley Fair Mall.
"When they did a CAT scan here, they found a crack in the back of his head and bleeding on his brain," Greg Rasner, Christian's father, told KPIX 5.
According to the victim's father, his son and a friend were harassed by two men inside Valley Fair, who repeatedly asked them if they belonged to a gang. They were followed into the parking lot as they tried to leave.
"They lunged at my son pretty quickly and violently according to a witness and hit him twice in the head," Rasner said.
While is son attempts to recover from traumatic brain injury, Rasner is urging police to review and release security camera video from the mall, which he believes will help the public identify his son's attackers.
Rasner said his family has kept an around-the-clock vigil at his son's bed side. "I don't want somebody else to go through what I'm going through. It's hard as a dad crying. It's not what I want to do," he said.
Police have not identified the suspects.
