Teen Bicyclist Hospitalized After San Ramon Onramp Crash
SAN RAMON (CBS SF) - A 13-year-old boy was critically injured when he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle near an on-ramp to Interstate Highway 680 in San Ramon on Thursday afternoon, police said.
The accident was reported at 2:07 p.m. on the south side of Bollinger Canyon Road near the on-ramp to southbound Highway 680, according to police.
The boy on his bicycle was with four other boys who were on foot.
He had a bicycle helmet with him but was not wearing it, police said.
A vehicle traveling east on Bollinger Canyon Road was turning onto the on-ramp when it struck the bicyclist, who suffered significant head injuries, according to police.
He was taken by medical helicopter to Children's Hospital in Oakland where he was in critical condition as of Thursday evening, police said.
The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and is cooperating with police.
The accident is being investigated by the San Ramon Police Department's traffic division.
