Teen Arrested On Suspicion Of Murder Of Man Found Dead On East Bay Trail
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A 17-year-old boy has been arrested for the death of a man whose body was found at Oakland's Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline on Tuesday morning, police said.
The juvenile, whose name isn't being released, has been booked into Alameda County Juvenile Hall in San Leandro on suspicion of murder for the death of 38-year-old Omar Gomez-Saldana, according to East Bay Regional Park District police.
A visitor walking in the park at about 9 a.m. Tuesday spotted Gomez-Saldana dead of an apparent gunshot wound in a grassy area off the Bay Trail in an area just south of Damon Slough, park district spokeswoman Carolyn Jones said.
The park visitor called police and flagged down an Oakland officer nearby.
Park district police said Gomez-Saldana's car was missing until California Highway Patrol officers spotted the 17-year-old boy driving it on Interstate Highway 580 in Oakland on Wednesday afternoon. The teen was detained and later arrested, police said.
