Tech Report: Ubuntu's Open Source OS Coming To Smartphones
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— An open source operating system called Ubuntu that's already being used on some PCs and TVs will soon be coming to smartphones.
It's been around for a long time as a Linux operating system and it's very lightweight, meaning it doesn't take up a lot of resources. It should be a pretty good choice in the developing world when you want to create low-cost, relatively high-speed phones. They also said that you can dock it and use your phone as your PC since it's the same operating system that runs on PC's.
It could give you greater functionality if you want to run Linux PC software; although it isn't particularly popular, it does have its following.

Ubuntu uses the same drivers as Android apps based on similar core software that Google has developed. Although it won't run Android apps, developers will be able to use some of the same application interfaces (API) to develop their apps.
It has its advantages, but has its competition. I don't think Google will really be sweating its emergence. Frankly, I think it's a risky proposition for Ubuntu to go up against some powerful players like Apple and Google, but I wish them the best.
