Tech Report: Twitter Apologizes After Outage
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — Twitter apologized for an outage that lasted about an hour Thursday morning just hours before the official start of the Olympic Games in London.
The opening ceremonies and events themselves are expected to create a surge of posts to the micro-blogging site.
We don't know exactly what happened, but Twitter said it came from their data center. According to a Facebook engineer who blogged about it, it was a failure of two parallel systems at nearly the same time. It's almost like the left engine and the right engine of an airplane going out.

The Olympics will be a very big moment for Twitter with all the journalists in the UK expected to be tweeting during the games, but they haven't expressed any concerns.
Plenty of people will be tweeting from the stands and from their phones in London so it's better that it happened now than during the games.
