Tech Report: Google Surprises Attendees With Glasses
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Google did what many expected on Wednesday, unveiling a brand new tablet computer. But the company also pulled a rabbit out of its hat, showing off its Google Project Glasses.
Google co-founder Sergey Brin said he envisions consumers being able to buy the glasses by 2014. Right now, developers can plop down $1,500 to preorder the augmented reality glasses.
KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid:
Google used the developer's conference at the Moscone Center to introduce the glasses in a fairly unique fashion. The company had four parachutists jump from a blimp onto the roof of the Moscone Center, with each wearing glasses to broadcast what they saw. They also had bicyclists and climbers do the same.
The glasses, which are network-enabled, will feature a touch panel on the side, a button on top to take photos and videos and a transparent screen to show information.
