Tech Report: Google Shows Off Glasses At SXSW
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — Google is continuing to ramp up publicity over its glasses this week by showing off apps they have developed for the hardware at South By Southwest. But Google Glass is already raising some privacy concerns.
From reading the news to sending emails, the wearer could do virtually anything with Google Glass that one could with a smartphone or tablet, the only limitation being without a full-size keyboard. The wearer would also have a monitor and a camera, for better or worse.
It may seem pretty sci-fi, but it's happening now and will be available to the masses soon, provided they can afford it.
Google Shows Of Glasses At SXSW
The camera issue is already problematic. A bar in Seattle has decided in advance that its patrons cannot wear the glasses when they come in when the glasses become available. The bar's owner doesn't want patrons to feel that they could have their identity revealed in the bar.
If you wanted to purchase a pair of Google Glasses you could have done so for $1,500, but believe it or not, they're sold out of the preview edition. They'll also have a prescription version of the glasses.
