Tech Report: Google, Samsung Offer New Laptop
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Google and Samsung have introduced a new lightweight laptop with a price similar to smaller tablet computers.
The new Chromebook will sell for $249 and run on an operating system revolving around Google's Chrome browser.
The laptop is cheaper and thinner, with a smaller 11.6-inch screen and weighing under 2.5 pounds. And instead of using Intel processors like previous Chromebooks, the latest version uses a processor of the ARM lineage, which is almost universal in mobile phones and tablets.
KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid:
The device is seen as the latest challenge to the Windows operating system used in most personal computers.
The devices are set to hit the market early next week.
You can hear Larry Magid's Tech Report Monday through Friday at 3:50pm on KCBS All News 740AM and 106.9FM.
