Tech Report: Google Launches New Flight Search Feature
MOUNTAIN VIEW (KCBS) – Google has launched its Flight Search engine feature, a simple way to look up information for possible travel plans.
KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid said it is a fairly easy tool to use, but is more limited than sites like Expedia and Orbitz.
"You can only search through major American cities, nothing international and no small towns," Magid said. "What's neat about it is you select your departure date and your return date and your city pair and it very quickly shows you available fares."
KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid:
Magid said that unlike traditional travel sites, you can't book your flight directly through Google Flight Search.
"Unlike the traditional travel sites, you can't actually buy (tickets) from the Google site," he said. "In some cases, there's a book button, where you can book the flight through another website."
Magid said the service might be good for those looking to get basic travel information, but it may not serve the same purpose for those who travel a lot, especially internationally.
You can hear Larry Magid's Tech Report Monday through Friday at 3:50pm on KCBS All News 740AM and 106.9FM.
