Tech Report: Google+ Failing To Challenge Facebook So Far
(KCBS) – Numbers from Internet tracking research firm comScore show that Google+ isn't making much of a dent against Facebook.
According to a Wall Street Journal report, Facebook users spend an average of six to seven hours a month on the site compared to Google+ users, who spend about three minutes a month on that social networking site.
KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid:
KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid said that the site still has room to grow on users.
"Google+ is relatively new and it may not have found its niche," said Magid. "I use Google+ but I use Facebook a lot more. All my friends are on Facebook and it's easy to use. Personally, even though I like Google+, I only have so much time in the day, and between Facebook and Twitter, I'm kind of social networked out."
Magid said that the numbers can't be making Google happy.
"They're putting a lot of effort into this. I think it's a really important business story if a company as well-heeled as Google is putting the kinds of resources into Google+ and it's not doing that well," said Magid. "I think it's a big challenge for Google CEO Larry Page. I'm not saying the company can't survive it. But I think it's a bit of an embarrassment if these numbers turn out to be true."
Google launched its social network site last September.
