Tech Report: Girl Scouts Go High-Tech To Sell Cookies
(KCBS) – The Girl Scouts have left their old-fashioned ways behind, as they are now accepting credit cards to pay for those Thin Mints and Samoas.
KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid said they are using a technology from Intuit called GoPayment, which allows them to use their smart phone to accept credit cards.
KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid:
A small device plugs into your smartphone, which allows for the scanning of a credit card.
Intuit charges a small fee for each transaction and offers various pricing plans.
Magid said beyond accepting credit card payments, the Girl Scouts also have an app for finding the nearest location where cookies are being sold.
The iPhone app, USA Cookie Finder, uses GPS technology to pinpoint the closest cookie sale location.
