Tech Report: Facebook Rolling Out 'Smart Lists' Feature

PALO ALTO (KCBS) – Facebook has unveiled its latest feature, which will allow users to automatically group friends into "Smart Lists."

KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid said Smart Lists will make it easier for users to use, rather  than the list feature that has been available on Facebook for a few years.

"A Smart List is looking at your friends who happen to belong to some set. They could be in your network, they could be in your community, they could work for the same company as you do," Magid said. "It's creating a list and a way of making lists easier."

KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid:

Magid said that while the feature automatically creates lists, users can still manually add or remove friends as they see fit.

"We can send messages to each other. I might not want to send it to a certain person who might be in that network. But I can delete them or add someone else," said Magid. "It (Smart Lists) helps things along so it suggests who should be in it, making it a lot easier to set up."

Magid said that lists are important because it allows users to privatize comments and conversations they might have on Facebook.
