Tech Report: Facebook Effectively Removes Deleted Photos From Servers
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – Facebook has fixed a problem in which photos that users thought they had deleted were still accessible.
As first reported by the website Ars Technica more than three years ago, Facebook had problems with its inability to remove deleted photos from its server. With new servers in place, the social networking giant said the deletion process is taking place in a reasonable period of time.
KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid:
In independent tests, Ars Technica found that Facebook photos now disappear in two days or so. Other sites such as Flickr and Twitter have not had the same issues, with photos disappearing in seconds.
But some of Facebook's privacy issues still exist, along with several other concerns from users, as the company moves forward as a public entity.
You can hear Larry Magid's Tech Report Monday through Friday at 3:50pm on KCBS All News 740AM and 106.9FM.
