Tech Report: CES Sneak Peak
LAS VEGAS (KCBS)— The Consumer Electronics Show is set to begin Tuesday in Las Vegas and KCBS' Technology Analyst Larry Magid is there for a sneak peak.
Among other reporters treated to an early glimpse, Magid said televisions really caught his eye.
"I think TV's are getting the way we want to be; smart, rich and thin. They're certainly getting thinner with these OLED diodes," he said referring to the latest models organic light emitted diodes.
KCBS Tech Report:
He said both Samsung and LG showed off 55-inch sets that are expected to be in the $7,500 price range.
"It's new technology. A year from now it could be half that, a third or less,"
Magid said in terms of smart, there were plenty of "smart televisions" with Google software built in.
Some of the sets even had a more interactive capacity where you could talk to and wave at it in order to change the channel and adjust the volume.
"They have cameras and microphones in order to see what you're up to," he said.
As far as economic optimism, since last year was bit of a slump, Magid said tech saw a great year in 2011 and that people will be buzzing for this year's CES show, but he'll know for sure when the throngs arrive on Tuesday.
