Tech Report: Bing Revamp Includes Social Network Add-Ons To Take On Google
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) — Microsoft is ramping up its fight against Google with a tweak to its Bing search engine by adding social components with connections to both Facebook and Twitter.
For example, say you're searching for a restaurant in San Francisco. You can certainly do that on Google or on Yelp and you're probably going to get a stranger's opinion.
Now with Bing, you'll still get those results, but in addition you'll get a sidebar that shows you what your friends are thinking.
It's all an attempt to get much more personal than what Google offers.
KCBS Tech Report:
Google is trying something similar with its social network Google+, but the difference is that Facebook has 900 million members, while Google+ only has about 170 million.
Microsoft and Facebook established a relationship years ago when they invested in Facebook.
Google continues to dominate the search engine market. Despite all their efforts, Microsoft has not been able to dig deep enough into Google's market share to make much of an impact.
