Tech Report: Arab Spring A Hot Topic At Middle East Technology Conference
(KCBS) – The Family Online Safety Institute hosted a conference in Doha, Qatar over the past two days, focusing on several issues in the world of technology.
KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid was a featured speaker at the event and while he was there to talk about online safety, the range of topics surprised him.
"The discussions quickly turned to Arab Spring, something that is so much on the minds of so many people at this conference," Magid said. "It was a big part of conversation over lunch with Egyptians at the conference. It is so looming in their immediate history and had such an enormous impact on everyone in the country."
KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid:
The revolutionary wave of protests and demonstrations began in late 2010.
Magid said that many people working in the area believe technology and social media were both enablers in what was happening in the Middle East.
Overall, while technology wasn't the cause of the uprisings, they helped to facilitate things and get people talking about what was happening.
You can hear Larry Magid's Tech Report Monday through Friday at 3:50pm on KCBS All News 740AM and 106.9FM.
