Tech Report: App Allows For Keeping Tabs On Friends' Video Picks
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – A new social networking video sharing app is making it even easier for users to keep track of what their friends are watching. KCBS Technology Analyst Larry Magid said that ShowYou is an iPad or iPhone app that shows you what videos your Facebook and Twitter friends are watching on YouTube, or other social networking sites.
"It's not really like you're spying on their viewing habits; it's a video that they've decided to share that you might want to watch," said Magid. "And the theory is that people tend to like what their friends like."
KCBS' Larry Magid Reports:
Magid said that he has wished in the past that Netflix had a similar system, so that he could get good movie recommendations from friends.
Magid said that the application "Likes" is similar. It allows you to find out which bars and restaurants your friends like.
"Privacy could be a downside if you weren't careful," said Magid. "But the biggest downside for me is information overload. Even though this is probably more helpful than just looking around randomly, I'm just so inundated with information that there's a point where I just can't deal with it anymore."
