TB Lockdown Ends At San Mateo County Women's Prison
SAN MATEO (CBS SF) -- The San Mateo County Women's Correctional Facility was given the "all clear" Friday morning after a case of tuberculosis was discovered at the facility Tuesday, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
A lockdown at a section of the women's correctional center in Redwood City was issued Tuesday when other inmates were potentially exposed to tuberculosis.
Since then potentially exposed inmates have been tested and the San Mateo County correctional health services allowed the center to reopen, sheriff's official said.
Two inmates were moved to Redwood City's Maguire Correctional Facility medical section following the tuberculosis discovery, sheriff's officials said. There is no housing available for someone with the contagious bacterial infection at the main women's jail.
The lockdown caused housing problems for new inmates who could not use 20 beds in the locked down area where they faced possible exposure, sheriff's officials said.
