Suspicious Packages Prompt Closure Of Street In Santa Rosa
SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- A bomb squad has been called in to investigate two suspicious packages that were spotted on a pedestrian path along the Santa Rosa Creek Wednesday afternoon, a police sergeant said.
A portion of Third Street between Pierson and Wilson streets has been shut down during the investigation, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Clay Van Artsdalen said.
The discovery of the packages, which were on the path underneath the Third Street bridge, was reported around 2:15 p.m., Van Artsdalen said.
The Sonoma County sheriff's bomb squad was en route to the area as of 3:20 p.m., he said.
No evacuations were necessary because the affected area is a major thoroughfare that is not lined by homes, Van Artsdalen said.
