Suspicious Package Forces Closure Of Richmond-El Cerrito del Norte BART Stations
RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- The Richmond and El Cerrito del Norte BART stations have reopened after a suspicious item found on the tracks turned out to be inert, a BART spokeswoman said.
The two stations were shut down around noon.
BART spokeswoman Luna Salaver said both stations were evacuated as a precaution and reopened around 2:30 after the Walnut Creek Bomb Squad determined that the suspicious object was harmless, Salaver said.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident, and buses were on hand to transport passengers headed to the closed stations.
"We are sorry for any inconvenience but we did want to take all precautionary measures to keep our passengers and our employees safe," Salaver said.
