Suspected Truck Thief Arrested After Trying To Ram SF Police Car
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The driver of a stolen truck was arrested Friday after trying to ram a police car in the city's Potrero Hill neighborhood, said a spokesman for the San Francisco police.
When the officers tried to pull over a stolen silver Toyota Tundra near the intersection of 20th and Missouri streets around 1 p.m., the man behind the wheel allegedly charged at the officers as he sped away.
"The suspect actually attempted to ram the officers. The officers did initiate a vehicle pursuit through the Potrero Hill neighborhood which subsequently ended when the suspect crashed into another vehicle," said Officer Albie Esparza, spokesman for the San Francisco Police Department.
The driver crashed into another vehicle about a mile away at 16th and Vermont Streets and tried to run away. Police caught up with the man about a block away and arrested him.
The person inside the car that was hit suffered only minor injuries.
Esparza said no weapons were recovered, but the arresting officers noted that the suspect was wearing a tactical SWAT style jacket.
The suspect was booked on charges of possessing a stolen vehicle, as well as felony assault with a deadly weapon for trying to run down the police car.
