Suspected DUI Driver Leads CHP On Chase Between Marin, CoCo Counties
NOVATO (CBS SF) - A Novato man was arrested for DUI and resisting arrest after a vehicle pursuit between Marin and Contra Costa counties Wednesday night.
Novato police responded to a report about a verbal disturbance involving 61-year-old Robert Adair around 8:45 p.m. in the 1000 block of Elm Dr., Novato police Sgt. Jay Demski said.
Adair left before police arrived and was believed to be driving while intoxicated, Demski said.
Adair meanwhile telephoned the other party of the verbal disturbance and said he would shoot anyone who tried to stop him, Demski said.
Adair drove past the Elm Drive residence and fled a traffic enforcement stop, Demski said. Novato police pursued him on eastbound state Highway 37 to Vallejo where the California Highway Patrol took up the pursuit, Demski said.
The CHP stopped Adair on southbound Interstate Highway 680 in Concord. CHP officers used bean bag projectiles and a Taser, and Pleasant Hill police released a police dog to take Adair into custody, Demski said.
Adair was medically cleared at Novato Community Hospital before he was booked into the Marin County jail for evading police, resisting arrest, DUI, carrying a firearm in a vehicle, speeding and failing to stop for a red light, Demski said.
