Suspected Car Burglar Arrested After East Bay Chase

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A suspected car burglar led officers on a chase from San Leandro to Oakland on Monday night, according to police.

An officer was patrolling an area near Horatio's Restaurant at 60 Monarch Bay Drive in response to recent auto burglaries in that neighborhood when, around 7:45 p.m., he heard glass break and saw a suspect exit a car and run away, police said.

The suspect was carrying what appeared to be a computer bag. The officer chased the suspect, who got into a white Lexus and sped away, police said.

The officer radioed for backup, describing the suspect vehicle and license plate number, according to police.

Police then chased the car into Oakland, where it crashed into an unoccupied parked car on 98th Avenue near Edes Avenue, police said.

The suspect ran got out of the car, ran and tried to hide inside a nearby liquor store where he was found and arrested without incident, police said.

No injuries were reported, and the property stolen from the car in San Leandro was recovered and returned to its owner, according to police.

The suspect was identified as Erin Burrell, 29, of Richmond.
