Suspect Sought In San Rafael Shooting

SAN RAFAEL (BCN) -- A man was injured in a shooting in San Rafael on Friday night, a police sergeant said Saturday.

The shooting was reported at about 8:05 p.m. by a police officer who was in the area of Larkspur and Alto streets and heard a gunshot, San Rafael police Sgt. Mike Vergara said.

More officers arrived and found the victim, who had suffered a gunshot wound to his foot. He is expected to survive, Vergara said.

The victim saw the male suspect leaving the area on foot, but he was not found in a subsequent search by police, who were assisted by Marin County sheriff's deputies, and officers from the California Highway Patrol and Twin Cities and Novato police departments.

Officers found a spent bullet casing on Larkspur Street near Canal Street, but the weapon was not found.

Police are not releasing a description of the suspect because the descriptions provided by the victim and a witness were vague and contradictory, according to Vergara.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation, he said.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call San Rafael police at (415) 485-3000 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS. Tips can also be made online at www.bayareacrimestoppers.org.
